Root Certification Authority (Root CA)
Myanmar ICT Development Corporation Public Company Limited (MICTDC) was appointed by the Electronic Transactions Control Board as Myanmar’s “Root Certification Authority (Root CA)” in 2008. Root CA was founded to establish Public Key Infrastructure and provide technical assistance to the Control Board while also promoting the expansion of e-Commerce and e-Governance through the widespread usage of digital signatures.
The Electronic Transactions Law of 2004 was enacted to stimulate and facilitate the use of electronic documents, digital signing of electronic document, contracts and transactions conducted online. The Electronic Transaction Central Body and the Electronic Transaction Control Board (Control Board) were formed by the ETL law to establish a Root CA system and encourage the use of digital certificates for online transactions and security in Myanmar.
In 2010, we completed the key generation ceremony of the National Root Certification Authority and Yatanarpon Certification Authority and have since maintained the National Repository of Digital Certificates, which contains all certificates issued by Myanmar’s Certification Authorities (CAs). MICTDC is Myanmar’s technical solution supplier for Certification Authorities (CAs), and we provide technical solutions, as well as CP, CPS, policies, and guidelines for CAs to follow when performing CA operations.
