Public Access Center
MICTDC had been making efforts to promote the use of ICT throughout the country by establishing Public Access Centers (PACs) in States and Divisions of the Union of Myanmar.
A Public Access Centers (PACs) is a public place where people can access computers, the Internet, and other digital technologies that enable them to gather information, create, learn, and communicate with others while they develop essential digital skills. Common focus of PACs is to provide access for the use of digital technologies to support community, economic, educational, and social development—reducing isolation, bridging the digital divide, promoting health issues, creating economic opportunities, and reaching out to youth for example.
The PACs are with a view to easily access the ICT and Internet by public school students, citizens, enterprises and local organizations for economic development and initiative and facilitate the e-Government, e-Commerce, e-Education and electronic transactions.
PACs were joint-ventured by MICTDC (former name is Myanmar Info-Tech) and local partners launched currently 16 sites on 2005 November 22. To be in line with the part of the Geneva Plan of actions and Tunis Agenda for access and bridging the digital divide. Initial phase was launched 22 November 2005.
There were total 331 PACs throughout the countries on 15 October, 2008 and the number gradually grows and the number increased up to 922 PACs in March 2010. After March 2010, Ministry of Communications, Post and Telegraph becomes the major player for the establishment of PACs through the country with the aim to use with affordable price and quality service.
